The leading lights of Loganville were out Wednesday at the Bay Creek Mobile Home Park to dedicate the new free on-site little library. The Loganville Rotary Club teamed up with area non-profit Path United to install a Free Little Library at the mobile home parks’ community center, stocked with children’s books for the local kids as part of a push to promote literacy for Loganville’s youngest students.
“We work with kids in seven mobile home neighborhoods, including this one,” Jim Hollingsworth, with Path United, said. He then addressed the dozen or more children who were in attendance, explaining the value of the Free Little Library. “You can come here any time and get a book. It’s open any time. And when you’re done, you just bring it back and get another.”
A small crowd of business leaders, elected officials, Rotarians and other dignitaries came out Wednesday for the formal opening of the Free Little Library, which is now housed in a former newspaper sales box, donated by The Walton Tribune.
“We’re happy to help with any project that promotes more people to read,” Patrick Graham, owner and publisher of The Tribune, said.
Loganville Mayor Skip Baliles was also in attendance and said he was thrilled to see the project come to completion for the benefit of the park’s many children.
“Literacy is a troubling issue,” Baliles said. “Anything we can do to address it is important. We really appreciate this.”
