Avery Smith Wraps Up Freshman Year at Georgia Tech!
Recently Jared Eakins connected with Avery Smith the 2023 Laws of Life Scholarship Winner. Avery provided this summary. Looks like a very successful first year. We aren't surprised a bit.
My first year at Georgia Tech went really well! I got involved in many things very quickly, so between school work and extracurriculars, I was very busy. I took 27 credit hours over the course of the year, and I ended with a 4.0. I joined two different campus ministries (Campus Christian Fellowship and The SALT Company), I joined the club ultimate frisbee team (we travelled to multiple schools to play in tournaments, such as Miss St, FSU, and Kennesaw), and I am a member of GT’s new chapter of HOSA (Healthcare Occupation Students of America). One of my favorite things that was a result of getting involved was having the opportunity to work every week with an afterschool program for elementary age students through a non-profit called La Amistad, Inc.. Being able to give back to the community was one of my favorite parts of the year, especially in such a large city like Atlanta. Other than that, I would just spend time with friends, and we definitely took part in all of the MANY traditions that Georgia Tech has, and supported a lot of our sports teams (football games were my favorite)!
I couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend my college years!
Thank you so much again for your support!
