Rotary International District 6860 Newsletter April 2023

Dear Rotarians,

March was a very busy month for District 6860.  Presidents-elect and Assistant Governors attended Assistant Governor Institute and MSPETS training in Chattanooga and came away with knowledge and great ideas for leading their clubs next year.  District Governor-elect Mary Grace Evans and District Trainer Erica Murphy put together an excellent District Training Assembly program to provide incoming club officers, directors, and committee chairs with the information and tools they need to  effectively lead their clubs next year.  Ryan Stallings and Holly Trawick offered two district and global grant qualification workshops to prepare clubs for the grant application process for next year.  My thanks to all of the Rotarians in the district who were involved with the training and organizing of these events, and my thanks to each of the clubs who sent representatives from their clubs to obtain the training to successfully lead their clubs.

We are in the final quarter of the 2022-2023 year, but there is still work to be done.  Check list of things that need to be done before June 30:
  • Clubs that received district grant funds for this year need to make sure your projects are on track for completion and reporting by the June 15
  • Pay your district dues and RI dues if you have not done so (if you don’t know, ask me)
  • Make sure your membership listing in DACdb is up to date and information is entered correctly
  • Make sure all of your club officers  and committee chairs are listed in DACdb for next year
  • Encourage every member to give to The Rotary Foundation Annual Fund and PolioPlus and send in those donations by June 1
  • Encourage your outgoing officers/directors to meet with incoming officers/directors to make for a smooth transition in leadership
  • Register for the District Conference at Perdido Beach Resort April 27-30
  • Register for the International Peace Conference May 4-6
  • Make sure your goals for the year are on track.  If you are tracking goals in Rotary Club Central, review goals and update information as needed
  • Continue to work on your membership, service projects and giving to The Rotary Foundation
Please review the information below on three very important opportunities for Rotarians in District 6860.  The District Conference is an annual event that brings together Rotarians to share and celebrate their achievements for the year.  Enjoy an opportunity to network with Rotarians from all over Alabama and have fun at the beach.  The International Peace Conference will be held in Birmingham Alabama and offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet and learn from peacebuilders from across the globe.  Past District Governor Bill Petty is again offering an opportunity for Rotarians to participate in a National Immunization Day in India, visit global grant projects and enjoy Rotary hospitality and fellowship.
I hope to see you all at Perdido Beach Resort!
Regards –
Carol Argo
Governor

Polio Immunization NID Opportunity
PDG Bill Petty (D6860 AL) shares with us this opportunity to participate in a Polio Immunization trip to Agra, India. Bill has organized and gone on similar trips with many Rotarians over the past six years, with interruptions during the COVID pandemic. His Rotarian contact in India is the owner of a travel agency there and is experienced in taking care of Rotarians and academics on similar trips. While not sponsored or endorsed by Rotary International or Zones 30 and 31, this may be your opportunity to deliver this kind of “hands-on” Service Above Self.

This year’s seven-day trip to participate in delivering the Polio vaccine will start on October 19th, arriving in New Delhi and traveling to Agra to participate in immunizations there. The following days are sightseeing, including several local Rotary projects. There is an option to extend your trip to thirteen days, adding a week and ending on October 31st. This second week includes additional sightseeing, including a rail trip to a tiger reserve, Jaipur City and more. See the flyers and forms below, or click here for more details, the signup formand photos from past similar trips.
