Oaklawn 2016 Rotarian of the Year Presented

Outgoing Oaklawn Rotary Club president Candace Young recently presented the 2016-2017 Rotarian of the Year award to Steve Trusty at the club’s annual installation banquet. Steve Trusty’s wife, Marilyn Trusty, was also recognized with the first Oaklawn Rotary Support Award for participating in many Rotary events along with her husband and supporting his volunteer achievements. A past president of the club, Steve Trusty served in many other capacities during his 31 years as a club member. Under his management during the past year, volunteer Turf Catering concession revenues reached a record high, facilitating an increase in the number of student scholarships awarded as well as doubling the scholarship amount per student. Trusty can be counted on to help with highway cleanups, Shots for Tots, Camp Quality weekend reunions, Kids Day and the Christmas Parade, to name a few of the club’s activities, often with his wife Marilyn by his side. He has presented the Rotary Minute and led the opening song for many years. “Goodwill, fairness to others and a genuine concern for all are the hallmarks of his character as well as the principles by which Rotarians strive to conduct their lives,” said Young in presenting the award.
