The Rotary Club of Decatur is excited to sponsor two Ukrainian families!

The two families were picked up from O-Hare Airport on Feb. 29th by Club #180 members Cindy Bardeleben, Diana Creamer, Bryan Mikeworth, and Heather Stoa.
Since Russian forces invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Rotarians around the world have been working to meet the humanitarian needs of Ukrainians. The war has forced many families to flee their homeland for temporary refuge in other countries awaiting the end of the war. Created in April 2022, the U.S. government “Uniting for Ukraine” sponsorship program offers Ukrainians temporary protected status to live in the United States for two years.
The Rotary Club of Decatur is excited to sponsor two Ukrainian families!
Our families (two single moms with their children):
- Alina and her daughter Diana (21 yrs.) and son Kirill (13 yrs.)
- Tetiana and her daughter Lisa(10 yrs.)
- Have been vetted and approved by the U.S. government.
- Will receive a social security card and are eligible to work.
The Rotary Club of Decatur has set a goal of raising $100,000 to create capacity to support them through their parole period of two years. (Additional funds may be necessary as needs arise.)
Your contribution will help our club provide our newcomers with support and guidance, including:
- finding employment
- arranging for reliable personal transportation
- securing safe and affordable housing
- applying for social security numbers and cards
- ensuring adequate food and clothing
- registering children in school
- enrolling adults in English classes
- accessing health services
