Another successful book fair for The Dr. Cabisarus Summer Literacy Program at Tucker Elementary School and Morningside Elementary School. This year we were able to donate over 2,450 books to all the students at both elementary schools, allowing each student to take home several books to read over the summer.

Why is this program so important? There is an enormous reading achievement gap between children from low- and middle-income families in the U.S. The gap at the end of eighth-grade is about 3 years. What we know is that approximately 80% of the reading achievement gap between children from low- and middle-income families stems from summer reading loss due to limited access to books they can read and they want to read over the summer.

We have seen great success over the past few years with this project.
