Club Learns about Adult Protective Services


Caleta Smith-Hinds of Adult Protective Services visited on September 29, 2022 to educate us on issues that can happen where adults need support. She shared what her department does, and some tips to look out for in others to make sure they are ok.

On Thursday September 29, 2022 the club speaker was Caleta Smith-Hinds. She is a Social Services Supervisor with Adult Protective Services/Division of Aging. She shared how the department works, the people she assists, and some tips to look out for.

Her education included a handout that shared these Tips to Avoid Senior Scams that was provided by the North Georgia Elder Abuse Task Force. We encourage you to share this with your friends & family.
  1. Don't answer the phone if it is a number you don't know.
  2. Don't pay with cash cards (debit)
  3. Don't pay money to get money.
  4. Don't let strangers in your home.
  5. Law enforcement does not call to arrest you.
  6. Can't win if you didn't play
  7. Don't give out bank/financial information to callers
  8. Don't clink on unknown attachments, even if from people you know, it may not be them.
  9. Don't send money to a person you haven't met.
