GRSP Student Spotlight: Thiago Simm

The Loganville Rotary Club recently welcomed our 2022-2023 GRSP student, Thiago Simm, at our club meeting on August 11th! Thiago is twenty-one years old and is from Maringá, Brazil, a city within the Brazilian state of Paraná. Thiago has studied animiation at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (Federal University of Santa Catarina). Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) was previously voted the 8th Best University in Brazil, and is located approximately ten hours away from Thiago’s hometown in the neighboring state of Santa Catarina. During his time at UFSC, he interned for Belli Studio, a Brazilian animation studio that has contributed to popular films and television series such as Rick and Morty.

Thiago is the youngest of two children. His father, Wagner, is a dental prosthesis professor, and his mother, Dione, is a controller for a large bank. Thiago’s older brother, Vinicius, graduated with a mechanical engineering degree and currently works in business. Thiago’s family has long been involved in Rotary. Thiago’s grandfather has been a Rotarian since 1964, having previously served as Governor for Rotary District 4630. Likewise, Thiago’s father has been a Rotarian since 1989, and served as a Club President for the 1998-1999 year. More recently, Thiago’s older brother Vinicius was a GRSP student during the 2019-2020 year, but unfortunately had to return home to Brazil due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thiago is currently attending the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens for the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters. He plans on primarily studying music during his time at UGA, while supplementing his education with elective courses in subjects like psychology. Thiago has expressed his excitement about being able to attend UGA, and is looking forward to Saturday’s in Athens when he can attend Georgia football games! Go Dawgs!

Welcome to Georgia, Thiago! We at the Loganville Rotary Club are excited to host you for the 2022-2023 year!
