Rotary cares about Brazilian Special needs

Recently Rotary Club Barueri Alphaville in Brazil approved to Rainha a Paz, a non-profit and non-governmental organization, the implementation of a Cytogenetic Laboratory and a Medical Clinic inside organization facilities.

Rainha da Paz which is located in Santana de Parnaiba, São Paulo, promotes social assistance and therapeutic treatment to more than 335 poor children with special needs. There, these families in such miserable conditions can count with treatments in several therapeutic areas:

Speech therapy  –   Physical therapy  –  Music therapy  -  Psychology  –  Occupational therapy – Eco therapy –   Pet therapy  –  hydrotherapy  –  dentistry –  nursing – computer including classes

Families receive further social and psychological assistance throughout special Programs:

•"Hands given" that guides the assisted mothers through practical workshops crafts, awakening their talents and promoting their self-esteem.

•"Caring for caregivers" that promotes a space where mothers can rescue their self-esteem, develop conflict situations, rethink and change attitudes.

•"João de Barro - Red ovenbird" protects families by providing minimum standards of hygiene and accessibility through implementation of improvements, renovations and construction at assisted homes

•"English Pilot Project" English classes taught by volunteer teachers to the assisted (when it is possible), to the assisted brothers and sisters since they will inherit a brother who will be child for entire life, to Employees sons (Teaching methods and materials donated by the publisher Oxford).

The Cytogenetics Laboratory and the Medical Clinic will improve the capacity of local health care and will promoting disease prevention programs, reducing the incidents and physical disabilities. Most families has more than one child assisted by Rainha da Paz Community, most of them have genetic problems. The community already performs services for families in genetic counseling to calculate the risk of recurrence prognosis and possible treatment of a certain genetic disease that affect or may affect its members or future descendants. It’s very important to the Rainha da Paz attendees to have available this kind of exams. In some cases patients are diagnosed as having cerebral palsy but in fact it was an "inborn error of metabolism", a misdiagnosed. The advent of new facilities for medical and laboratory services, attendees and families will have the opportunity to perform the exams in a right time. Rainha da Paz will implement a routine care and it will be a procedure in the organization that will bring better quality of life and dignity to them.
